ECUMENICAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE PARISH OF “VRETA KLOSTER” AND THE PARISHES OF “GRAN MADRE DI DIO” E “SANTA FAMIGLIA”
This agreement lays its roots in friendship already established between the Parish of Santa Famiglia in the Diocese of Fano in Italy, belonging to the Roman Catholic Church and the Parish of Vreta Kloster in the Diocese of Linköping in Sweden, belonging to the Church of Sweden.
The friendship began through mutual friends of the Diocese of St. Albans in England, belonging to the Church of England.
Both the Dioceses of Fano and Linköping are in contact with the diocese of St. Albans.
The two parishes “Gran Madre di Dio” and “Santa Famiglia” have the intention to act with respect to this agreement as one Parish to join their forces and be a sign of communion in the city.
We wish to confirm the friendship still in place and we want to deepen it more and more, making us next to each other through mutual prayer.
The two Parishes want to make use of their friendship to share the activities of their Churches and mutually try to capture in the experience of the other, how to grow in faith and Christian love, coming to concretely highlight the common membership of the worldwide Church that Jesus Christ founded on earth.
Highlights
FIVE ECUMENICAL IMPERATIVES
1- Catholics and Lutherans should always begin from the perspective of unity and not from the point of view of division in order to strengthen what is held in common even though the differences are more easily seen and experienced.
2- Lutherans and Catholics must let themselves continuously be transformed by the encounter with the other and by the mutual witness of faith.
3- Catholics and Lutherans should again commit themselves to seek visible unity, to elaborate together what this means in concrete steps, and to strive repeatedly toward this goal.
4- Lutherans and Catholics should jointly rediscover the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ for our time.
5- Catholics and Lutherans should witness together to the mercy of God in proclamation and service to the world.
